Rudi Lamprecht relays head of Siemens mobile phone segment to Ian Moyes

Ian Moyes The mobile phone segment of Siemens mobile is getting a new head. Rudi Lamprechtchairman of Siemens mobile and member of the managing board of Siemens passed on global responsibility for the mobile phone business to Ian Moyes who starts chairing the division today.  Rudi Lamprecht said Siemens had already sold as many phones - 33 million - by the first week of August as it did in the whole of its 2001/2 business year and predicted sales of 38-39 million by the end of the fiscal year on September 30.

Ian Moyes was previously head of sales and in this capacity has reorganized worldwide sales of mobile phones. After sales of Siemens mobile phones in the first and second quarter of this year remained roughly the same compared with the previous year, according to Siemens, the figure in the current quarter has risen.

"The reorganization of the mobile phone segment and the product campaign are both paying off: we will once again sell more mobile phones this year than in the previous year and thus continue our growth path for the fifth year in a row", says Rudi Lamprecht.

Ian Peter Moyes, British, 47, has held various marketing and management positions for Siemens since 1986. Before Ian Moyes took over worldwide sales, he was managing director of Siemens mobile in UK and  the service sector of the Enterprise Networks business in the same country for around 5 years.

"With Ian at the helm of our mobile phone segment, we want to continue our growth path. The high demand for our current product range shows that we're on the right track," says Rudi Lamprecht.

The mobile phone segment of Siemens ranks number four in the world and number two in Europe. Some 2,300 jobs will go at Siemens mobile over the next 12 months as the company tries to save an extra one billion euros and stem a decline in earnings.
