Corporate News: Mobile phone segment of Siemens under new management
Posted by: festprint on Saturday, August 30, 2003 - 03:43 AM

Wi-Fi Corporate news Sheffield, UK, and Munich, Germany /The Wi-Fi Technology Forum/- The mobile phone segment of the mobile communication group at Siemens AG – Siemens mobile for short – is getting a new head. Rudi Lamprecht, head of Siemens mobile and member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, today (August 29 2003) passed on global responsibility for the mobile phone business to Ian Moyes. The mobile phone segment is one of five divisions within Siemens mobile, the top revenue earning Siemens Operating Group. Latterly, Rudi Lamprecht was himself acting head of the division. Ian Moyes will take up his new position as of 1 September.

Ian Moyes was previously head of sales and in this capacity he successfully reorganized worldwide sales of mobile phones. After sales of Siemens mobile phones in the first and second quarter of this year remained roughly the same compared with the previous year, the figure in the current quarter has risen considerably: manufacturing is operating at full capacity. "The reorganization of the mobile phone segment and the product campaign are both paying off: We will once again sell more mobile phones this year than in the previous year and thus continue our growth path for the fifth year in a row", says Rudi Lamprecht.

Before Ian Moyes took over worldwide sales, he was managing director of Siemens mobile in Great Britain, where, within a year, he succeeded in increasing the market share for Siemens mobile phones from 4 to over 10 percent. Prior to this he managed the service sector of the Enterprise Networks business, Siemens Communications, in Great Britain for around 5 years. Under his leadership he boosted business in a stagnating market by 50 percent and tripled profit. Ian Peter Moyes, British, is 47 and has held various marketing and management positions for Siemens since 1986..

"With Ian at the helm of our mobile phone segment, we want to continue our growth path. The high demand for our current product range shows that we're on the right track," says Rudi Lamprecht.

The mobile phone segment of Siemens has steadily increased its market share for 4 years and is currently number 4 in the world. In Europe, Siemens is number 2 for mobile phones.

The Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (Siemens mobile) offers a complete range of mobile solutions including mobile devices, infrastructure and applications. Devices include mobile phones, wireless modules, mobile organizers and cordless phones as well as products for wireless home networks. The infrastructure portfolio includes GSM, GPRS and 3G mobile network technologies from base stations and switching systems to intelligent networks, e.g. for prepaid services. Mobile Applications cover end-to-end solutions for Messaging, Location Based Services or Mobile Payment. For fiscal 2002 (September 30), Siemens mobile recorded sales of EUR 11 billion and employed approximately 28,600 people worldwide.
